A Transformational Day at Netflix NYC: Access, Opportunity & Life-Changing Insights
For emerging talent looking to break into entertainment, the right guidance and exposure can make all the difference. Recently, we had an unforgettable day and experience at Netflix’s New York office, hosted by LaunchPad Board Member Corey Twitty, Director and Head of Emerging Talent at Netflix.
The day began with an exclusive private tour led by Corey, giving the group a rare, behind-the-scenes look at Netflix’s creative and operational hub. From production insights to company culture, students gained a firsthand understanding of what it takes to work at one of the biggest and most influential companies in entertainment.
Following the tour, Corey led an in-depth session on Netflix’s internship program and early-career hiring, offering direct insight into how students can position themselves for opportunities and stand out as applicants. The discussion focused on practical strategies for securing internships and full-time roles, giving participants a clearer path toward launching their careers in entertainment.
Bringing it all together was an impactful fireside panel featuring three Netflix executives:
Fiona Gibb, Strategist, Product Creative Studio
Stephanie Leonard, Senior Manager, Production Management (Comedy)
John Oliveira, Manager, Non-fiction Series Publicity
Moderated by Corey, the discussion provided invaluable guidance on navigating careers in entertainment, sharing personal experiences, industry insights, and practical advice on breaking into competitive fields. The executives emphasized the importance of networking, adaptability, and persistence in forging a successful career path.
The day was further enriched by the presence of LaunchPad Board Member Makeda Mays Green, who shared her own insights and advice, reinforcing the power of mentorship and access in career development.
Experiential Learning in Action
This session was a prime example of LaunchPad’s commitment to experiential learning—a core pillar of our program that prepares young adults for internships and full-time roles by immersing them in real-world professional environments. These firsthand experiences allow participants to interact directly with industry leaders, gain a deeper understanding of workplace dynamics, and develop the confidence to navigate their career journeys.
By bridging the gap between education and employment, LaunchPad ensures that emerging talent—especially those facing systemic barriers—can access the resources, relationships, and opportunities needed to succeed. Events like this are more than just career conversations; they are life-changing moments that open doors and shape futures.
A heartfelt thank you to Corey Twitty, Fiona Gibb, Stephanie Leonard, John Oliveira, and the entire Netflix team for their generosity in sharing their time, expertise, and mentorship. The impact of this experience will resonate far beyond this one day, shaping the future careers of those who had the opportunity to participate.
